The Gastrotravelogue Is the Perfect Combination of Food and Travel

Janine Thomas describes herself as a chocoholic, foodie, and traveler. So it makes perfect sense she combined her passions and turned it into a thriving blog.

“I am not sure which I love more—food or travelling,” reads her bio. “When you put them together it is a marriage made in heaven.”

Her website/blog/brand Gastrotravelogue breaks down what you need to know about a place beforehand, and includes travel tips, resources, and guides—with lists with tempting titles such as 10 Fabulous Wine Regions to Visit Around the World and Delicious Gifts from Paris for Foodies.

In an interview with Travel Awaits, Thomas shared some of her tips and tricks. “Take time to plan your trip, especially if you are short of time,” she recommends. “It makes such a difference when you arrive at an airport and don’t have to dither around trying to get to your destination. I know so many people who have an argument at that point, and it’s not a great way to start a holiday.”

And when it comes to food travel, one country that’s at the very top of her list is Vietnam. “There are still French influences to be found like in the classics like Bánh mì, which is a crispy baguette filled with delicious pate, roasted meat and crunchy fresh salad,” she says.

“Each bite is heavenly. Another favorite is Vietnamese spring rolls, with a lattice-like rice paper wrapper, deep fried to puff up, surrounding a taste explosion inside. Yum!” She stresses that the food in Vietnam is regional and seasonality is important.
