Everyone knows not to mess with the TSA when flying, but some people still like pushing things as far as they can. Airport security was ramped up in the wake of 9/11, with officials scrutinizing each bit of luggage that you try to take onboard.

The TSA website includes a list of what you can and can’t bring on the plane—with liquids above a certain amount, sharp items, and any kind of weapon prohibited. This has led to some travelers trying to trick the system, resulting in the TSA sharing its list of the most bizarre items they caught in hand luggage during 2022.

At General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, someone even thought they could bring a grenade onto an airplane!

Somewhat surprisingly, guns were a popular item that passengers tried to sneak past the TSA. Firearms were discovered in a PlayStation at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport; inside bottles of peanut butter at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City; and, bizarrely enough, within a raw chicken at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Miami.

Other peculiar items include a knife in a laptop, hair scrunches filled with drugs, and fentanyl candy. We’re usually afraid they’ll confiscate a bottle of water over 100ml, what on earth were these people thinking?
