One of the greatest parts of traveling is getting to connect with people from around the world. Being in different countries allows one to learn about different cultures and lifestyles, all while interacting with the locals. That said, some countries count their people as one of their best features due to just how friendly they are.

Each year, Booking.com releases its list of the 10 Most Welcoming Cities on Earth. 2023’s addition includes many little cities you may never have heard of, never mind considered traveling to.

“This year’s Most Welcoming Places on Earth span five continents and feature hidden coastal gems, rural destinations surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, and even a bustling Latin American metropolis,” the online travel agency revealed. “They have all been identified based on the share of accommodation partners receiving a Traveller Review Award 2023.”

According to Booking.com, points are earned from little things like being shown personal attention to detail when checking in or receiving helpful recommendations about where to explore.

The top spot on the list went to the town of Polignano a Mare in Italy. The little town on the south Adriatic coastline is famous for cliff-diving and a picturesque restaurant situated in a grotto called Grotta Palazzese.

Hualien City in Taiwan claimed second place, followed by San Sebastián in Spain, Dresden in Germany, Klaipeda in Lithuania, York in England, Ushuaia in Argentina, Porto De Galinhas in Brazil, Mexico City in Mexico, and the Gold Coast in Australia.
