As exciting as traveling is, it does have some downsides. One of them surely has to be the coffee found in hotel rooms and hostels. If you’re a coffee connoisseur, the mere thought of the instant coffee sachets is probably making your skin crawl just a little, but the good news is, there are a handful of hacks to improve hotel room coffee so your day gets off to a good start!

Bottled Water

As seasoned travelers know, not every country has safe drinking water. Even those that do sometimes have excess amounts of calcium which can affect the taste of the H20 coming out of the tap. Therefore, use bottled water when making coffee in your hotel room. Mineral water with a higher ratio of magnesium to calcium will also improve the texture and sweetness of the coffee.

Salt

Many baking recipes call for a sprinkle of salt as the ingredient actually brings out the sweetness. Add a touch of salt to the ground coffee before brewing to take away some of the acidity. If it doesn’t work, add some brown sugar before drinking.

Fruit Juice

If all else fails, attempt to disguise the coffee while reaping the benefits of the caffeine. Make yourself a virgin coffee cocktail using some fruit juice and tonic water.
