Albania is a beautiful Southeastern Europe country that is quickly emerging as a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. Its pristine beaches, scenic mountains, and vibrant culture leave visitors astonished and wondering how they didn’t come there before. But keep in mind that there are some things you should know about Albania before you book your trip there.

Traveling Through the Country Can Be Challenging

If you really want to experience the best that Albania has to offer, you shouldn’t stay in just one place. However, getting from point A to point B can be quite a challenge since buses and trains rarely stick to the schedule and offer bumpy rides. This is why your best bet might be renting a car.

Nothing Will Be on Time

Locals are known to take a loose approach when it comes to time. You’ll often experience delays whether it’s public transportation, check-ins, tour starts, opening times, and various other things. So don’t lose your patience and try to roll with it.

You Should Always Have Cash On You

Your credit card can get you by for most purchases while you are in the country’s capital Tirana or some other bigger city. However, smaller cities and rural areas, as well as some natural tourist attractions, still rely on cash, so make sure you have some on you at all times. The country’s official currency is Albanian Lek, but Euro is also widely accepted.

It Gets Really Hot During Summer

The summers in Albania are beautiful but also really hot. This is especially the case in July when temperatures easily reach 88F. That is okay if you don’t mind the heat, but if you are interested in more things than just the beaches, you might consider going in late spring or early fall.
