Bend is a quaint and quiet city situated at 1,000 feet above sea level next to the Cascade Mountains. Its location makes it the perfect spot for nature-loving tourists. In the area, you’ll find tons of trails, lakes, and even an extinct volcano. Go hiking or skiing or check out the High Desert Museum, and be sure not to skip a visit to one of the nation’s only remaining Blockbuster locations. Here are a few of our favorite things to do in Bend:

Cougar Hot Springs

The Wilhelmette National Forest is home to hot springs that, on average, reach about 112 degrees Fahrenheit. A short hike will lead you to three pools and a few falls that’ll have you feeling truly one with nature. The springs are quite off-grid and cell reception in the area is limited, so be sure to plan ahead and get clear directions.

Crescent Moon Ranch Alpaca Farm

Who doesn’t love alpacas? Crescent Moon Ranch is known as “Oregon’s Premier Alpaca Destination,” and should be a top stop for anyone who loves these furry little friends. You can buy one if you’re in the market, or simply stop by and say hello.

Blockbuster

This should go without saying, but you can’t visit Bend and not check out the United States’ only Blockbuster location. The creation of online streaming has caused movie rental chains to become obsolete, but for nostalgia purposes, be sure to check out this branch built in 1992.
