The capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in Northern Italy, Bologna is known for being lively and historic. It is full of monuments, landmarks, and structures that are incredibly interesting. If you’re planning a trip there anytime soon, here are three of the things that you must do during your visit.

Take a Walk Around Piazza Maggiore

Located right in the center of the city, the Piazza Maggiore is an important historical location with a number of interesting buildings in it including the Pallazo d’Accursio, the Palazzo del Podesta, the Basilica di San Petronio and the Palazzo Comunale. A walk around it is a must when visiting Bologna, especially if you can catch one of the open-air movies or concerts that they sometimes hold.

Visit the Archiginnasio

Once operating as one of the main buildings of the University of Bologna, the Archiginnasio now houses the Anatomical Theater, a fascinating all-wood room full of medical statues and an anatomical table where university students would have once learned about anatomy and watched surgery demonstrations.

Buy Something at La Piazzola Market

A historic market that has been held for hundreds of years, the La Piazzola Market is still as popular as ever among tourists and locals alike. With over 400 stalls selling everything from clothes to flowers to pottery to food to spices, the atmosphere is interesting enough even if you don’t end up making a purchase.
