When they think of Barbados, the first thing that most people think of is “the birthplace of pop superstar Rihana.” However, among travelers, this Caribbean island is known for being a perfect tropical getaway with pristine beaches, watersport opportunities, great food, and much more.

When it comes to the tourist offer, a few Caribbean destinations can beat Barbados. But before you go there, you should know a few things.

Most Countries Don’t Require Visa

Most countries, including the United States, Canada, the UK, and members of the European Union, don’t need a visa to travel to Barbados. The full list is available on the official website of the Barbados Immigration Department.

January Through April is the Best Time to Visit

If you want to make sure the weather is as good as it can be, then visit somewhere between January through April. This time of the year has the lowest average rainfall, and the chance for hurricanes is slim. However, keep in mind that this is the peak season which results in higher prices and more tourists everywhere.

Camouflage Material is Illegal

Wearing any type of camouflage material, whether it’s clothes or accessories, is illegal in Barbados. This is because camouflage is only reserved for the military.

Drive on the Left

If you happen to need a car in Barbados, keep in mind that everyone drives on the left side of the road. The island is part of the British Commonwealth, which is why this isn’t surprising.

Be Aware of Manchineel Tree

The manchineel tree is commonly found in Barbados, mostly on beaches where it provides a well-needed shade. However, avoid touching it, eating its fruit, and standing near it when it rains. The tree, which usually has a red mark on the trunk, has strong toxins that cause blistering.
