It’s a March day in 2023 and the internet, once again, is divided. Surprise, surprise! You may ask yourself what controversial topic has gotten the armchair advocates into a spin this time? Well, chairs actually have something to do with it.

No one is disputing that economy class can be an uncomfortable way to spend a flight. Depending on the airline, seats can be narrow, legroom may be limited, and the overall feeling of being a sardine is present.

However, a new hack has come up with a way for you to get an entire row to yourself!

The trick comes from TikTok which has become the hub for ideas on both sides of smart. This particular one involves booking a primary ticket and two refundable tickets. Then, cancel the refundable tickets 45 minutes before the flight departs. This leaves you with a row of three empty seats.

Although the hack works in principle, people have been questioning the ethics of implementing it. Many have called it dishonest and selfish, stating that other fliers could have needed those seats.

The method also doesn’t work with all airlines.

American Airlines, for example, has prohibited holding reservations for reasons like securing upgrades, blocking seats, or obtaining lower fares. Some airlines even forbid the same passenger from holding multiple tickets on the same flight, or even same city pairing on the same day.
