Unique Drive-In Theaters In the U.S.

While most movie theaters remain close, the almost defunct drive-in theaters in the United States have seen a rebirth. Groups of friends have begun flocking to drive-ins that provide a socially distanced environment, along with food service and a film. Here are a few Drive-ins that offer more than just a movie-watching venue.

Monetta Drive-In

This classic drive-in theater is found in Monetta, South Carolina, and features all of that old world charm that made drive-ins special in the first place. The films are projected from a giant peach, which contains the projector. Guests of the drive-in are allowed to bring their own alcoholic beverages and food to enjoy while they watch the film. There are also live music nights if you are looking for something extra special.

Harvest Moon Twin Drive-In

Another lovely drive-in is this one in Gibson City, Illinois. Its original claim to fame was that it derived all of its power from wind turbines, which makes it one of the most eco-friendly drive-ins in the country. There is also a collection of antique cars, which make guests feel like they have gone back in time.

Shankweiler’s Drive-In

Shankweiler’s is the longest-running drive-in in the U.S. It first opened before the Great Depression and has stayed open since. The next time you find yourself in Orefield, Pennsylvania check it out.
