Want a Hotel Room Facing the Ocean? Here is What to Look Out for

You’ve waited all summer for this vacation and the only thing you plan to do for the next few days is lay back and enjoy the ocean. To make sure that you get the most out of your beach vacay, you booked a hotel overlooking the water. But how do you make sure that you actually get what you pay for?

Know the Lingo

When reserving a hotel room, you may come across two terms: “ocean-view” and “oceanfront”. They may sound the same, but they aren’t. The first means that you will get a view of the water—even if it is just a tiny sliver. The latter, however, means your room is facing the ocean head-on.

Price Factor

Nothing good comes for free. Taking a look at the price is a good indicator of just how good your view will be. Ocean-view rooms will cost more than standard rooms, while oceanfront rooms are expected to cost even more than that.

Give Them a Ring

No one knows the layout of the hotel best than the people working at the front desk. Phone the establishment and ask the concierge which rooms have the best view (and their prices). You may even score a special deal if you’re lucky!
