Wendy’s Secret Garden Offers Breathtaking Views at Sydney

Sydney is home to many hidden spots that offer beautiful views of the Australian capital, but Wendy’s Secret Garden is something truly special. It’s one of the city’s top natural landmarks with the most touching backstory.

This public park is the work of Wendy Whiteley, and it stands as a constant reminded that, even on our darkest days, we can still create something truly extraordinary.

Ms. Whiteley started looking for an outlet for her grief after her husband passed away, and found it right here.

She started cleaning up garbage and weeds from an old abandoned railway yard at the foot of her house, because it helped her cope with pain. The land didn’t actually belong to her, and she never asked anyone for permission, but kept going since no one told her to stop.

It’s a good thing that Ms. Whiteley was given this freedom, because she eventually transformed this vacant lot into a lush, green landscape with beautiful pathways, which can only be rivaled by the amazing views at Sydney Harbor. Her incredible journey is even chronicled in the book Wendy Whiteley and the Secret Garden by Janet Hawley.
