The museum was founded by the Happiness Research Institute, a group of people dedicated to studying why some societies are happier than the other. They want to implement their findings to help people around the world understand the importance of happiness and wellbeing in everyday life.

CEO Meik Wiking said that they decided to open the museum as many people requested to visit their offices.

“I think people imagine that the Institute is like a magical place—a room full of puppies or ice cream—but we are just eight people sitting in front of computers looking at data,” he says. “So we thought, why don’t we create a place where people can experience happiness from different perspectives and give them an exhibition where they can become a little bit wiser around some of the questions we try to solve?”

The Happiness Museum is located in the beautiful, historical part of Copenhagen in a cozy 2,585-square-foot space.
