When we talk about the most well-known destinations in Asia, it goes without saying that Tajikistan probably isn’t on that list. Despite being a gorgeous country with some of the most stunning scenery in the region, Tajikistan just doesn’t get enough love.

Here are three places that you should definitely check out in this Central Asian country.

Iskanderkul

This glacial lake located in the heart of the Fann Mountains was long considered one of the most beautiful sights in the former Soviet Union. Backdropped by imposing, snow-capped mountains, the clear waters of this lake are absolutely stunning.

Rudaki Park

Located in the capital city of Dushanbe, the Soviet-influenced capital of Tajikistan, is one of my favorite city parks in the world. Rudaki Park is beautifully landscaped, colorful, and features a unique monument to Rodaki, the country’s most beloved poet.

Pamir Highway

The Pamir Highway is one of the most extreme roads on Earth. Its high elevation, reaching its peak at over 15,000 feet at Ak-Baital Pass, is not for novice drivers. The reward that it gives, however, is the best and most accessible view of the mountainous terrain that characterizes the country and unforgettable driving experience.
