Rio de Janeiro is home to more stunning beaches than we can count and they’re one of the first things we think of when someone mentions this city. Some of the beaches in this Brazilian metropolis are so iconic that they count among its top attractions and that happens to be the case with these three.

Copacabana Beach

Copacabana needs no special introductions since it’s the most popular beach that Rio has in store. You can find everything from lavish hotels and fancy restaurants to food kiosks and local stores lining its shores and your visit to Rio is incomplete if you don’t take a walk down this iconic promenade.

Ipanema Beach

Another iconic beach that Rio wouldn’t be the same without, Ipanema borrows its name from a lively neighborhood where it’s located. In addition to being known for your regular beach activities, such as sunbathing and water sports, Ipanema will win you over with its breathtaking scenery, with two mountains rising at the western end of the beach.

Arpoador Beach

Speaking of beaches with amazing scenery, it doesn’t get much better than Arpoador. Located in a small peninsula between Ipanema and Copacabana, this beach is one of Rio’s most popular areas for sunset viewing, in addition to being one of the city’s top surfing spots.
