Thailand has over 1400 islands, and while only about 50 are inhabited, choosing which ones to visit can be overwhelming. Each of Thailand’s islands offers a unique view of the country’s culture and natural beauty. Some are known for their relaxing beaches, while others are popular among travelers in search of a bit of nightlife. Whether you’re looking to relax, explore, or party all night long, there’s an island in Thailand perfect for you. Here are some of our favorites.

Koh Samui

One of Thailand’s largest and most popular islands, Koh Samui is famous for its white sand beaches and turquoise waters. The island is also home to several ornate Buddhist temples such as Wat Phra Yai, which hosts a 12-meter golden statue of Buddha.

Koh Pha Ngan

If nightlife is your thing, Koh Pha Ngan is the place for you. Party going tourists and locals alike get together for drinking, dancing, and entertainment at Full Moon Parties held monthly on the island from May to December. Many hotels in Koh Pha Ngan offer packages including transportation to parties along with any entry fees.

Ko Tao

True to its name, which means “Turtle Island” in Thai, Ko Tao is a paradise for scuba divers hoping to catch a glimpse of marine life. The island is surrounded by coral reefs, and many local dive shops offer courses for all levels.
