Palermo is the capital of the Italian region of Sicily and a city that’s always had a rich cultural life. It’s been called the “Kingdom of the Sun” by the 12th century Normans, and located near the border of Europe and Africa, the city was proclaimed the Italian Capital of Culture in 2018, and for a good reason. Here are some tips if you want to visit Palermo.

Go To Vucciria Market

There are three main markets, Vucciria, Capo, and Ballarò, that offer a variety of food and many other things to buy. You can visit them all through a street food tour, otherwise, they will take too much time.

Have a Granita Outside

A great way to start a day in Palermo is over a granita al Caffe or a fruit granita if that’s what you prefer. If the weather is nice, get an outside table and enjoy the view.

Visit the Cathedral

Make sure to grab lunch before heading to the 12th-century cathedral and Museo Riso, the art gallery. If you have some extra time, visit Angela Tripi’s famous workshop. Her works from terracotta are famous around the world and this is your chance to learn from the best.
