Germany is well-known for the brewing and drinking of beer. Here are five German destinations that beer lovers must visit.

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is the largest beer festival in the world and is globally renowned for its variety of beer and merry festivities.  It is held annually in Munich for 16-18 days at the end of September with beer consumption often entering the millions of liters.

Cologne

The city of Cologne boasts over twenty breweries and serves a special variety of beer called Kölsch, served in special skinny glasses called Stangen.  Come and try out the array of highly individual drinking halls and Bierkellers.

Hofbräuhaus am Platzl

This is the most famous beer hall in Bavaria.  Originally built in 1589, you can enjoy medieval architecture and great crafted wood beams while you sink your stein.

Bier and Oktoberfest Museum

The Oktoberfest Museum in Munich is housed in a townhouse dating from the year 1327. The museum chronicles the history of beer in Bavaria and the nation’s favorite beer festival: Oktoberfest.

Franconian Brewery Museum

First mentioned in 1122, the museum is located in a former Benedictine brewery with vaulted ceilings.  With more than 1300 exhibits, you will leave this traditional brewery with 900 years’ worth of knowledge of the ancient art of brewing.
