A lot of people are understandably skeptical when it comes to solo traveling. There are legitimate concerns about safety, loneliness, and whether they will have a good time without company.

TikTok content creator Megan Homme had similar concerns and was “terrified” about solo traveling before. But after taking four solo trips, she realized it was much more fun than she thought it could be.

In a viral video shared on social media, Homme shared everything people should know about solo traveling and offered some great advice for people who might be tempted by the idea but don’t know where to start.

According to Homme, the best starting point is to visit a nearby city and get used to doing alone the travel-related activities like flying, checking into hotels, dining by yourself, and exploring tourist attractions. After that, you can embark on a bigger challenge of traveling abroad.

She recommends getting a hotel or a hostel instead of Airbnb. Hotels have staff and security 24/7 that will provide you with a sense of security and someone to turn to in case of need and hostels are great for making friends.

Homme also says that making friends is a lot easier than you think. She made a lot of friends on the street by simply getting asked to take someone’s photo and there are all sorts of other ways to connect with people like reaching out to friends of friends or becoming part of online communities.

Finally, Homme promises that once you start solo traveling, it will be “hard to get back to any other way.”

“I truly think it is one of the greatest experiences and everyone needs to do it at least once in their life. Remember there is always a flight back home,” she concludes.

@meganhomme

The beautiful weather in San Diego, California, is often too tempting for visitors to spend their day indoors, especially in a museum. However, you should think about sparing a few hours on this activity considering that the city has an abundance of amazing museums and a lot of them are completely free of charge.  Check out some recommendations below.

Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego

Located in Balboa Park, the Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego focuses on exhibiting works from artists native to Southern California and the Baja Norte region. In addition to a smaller permanent collection, you can enjoy rotating exhibitions, workshops, events, and more free of charge.

Craftsmanship Museum

Officially named Miniature Engineering Craftsmanship Museum (MECM), San Diego’s Craftsmanship Museum is perfect if you enjoy engineering and/or scale models. Here you’ll find over 500 objects crafted from all sorts of materials, including unique items and scale models of engines, trains, ships, cars, and more.

Timken Museum of Fine Art

The founders of the Timken Museum of Fine Art believed everyone should have access to fine art, so they made it admission-free when they opened it in 1965. The same policy remains to date, meaning you will have a rare opportunity to enjoy works of European masters as well as a selection of American paintings. Its collection includes Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s “Parable of the Sower,” Eastman Johnson’s “The Cranberry Harvest, Island of Nantucket,” and Guercino’s “The Return of the Prodigal Son.”

We’re finally packing our bags and getting ready to leave 2024 behind—but not without looking back at some of the travel trends it’s given us. From “airport tray aesthetic” to “seat squatting”, join us as we look back at some of the viral travel trends that the year behind us will be remembered by.

Airport Tray Aesthetic

“Airport tray aesthetic” was definitely the biggest travel trend of 2024, and it was all about taking photos of your chic travel essentials, perfectly arranged inside an airport tray.

Rawdogging

Rawdogging was one of the most controversial travel trends of 2024, and it saw passengers spend their flights looking straight ahead, without any entertainment. Some even went as far as to avoid eating and drinking during their flight.

Seat Squatting

If you ever boarded a plane and found someone already in your seat, you’ve encountered “seat squatters”. This term applies to fliers who have a habit of taking a seat not assigned to them in an attempt to secure a better seat without paying extra.

Grocery Store Tourism

Grocery store tourism was having a moment in 2024, and it saw travelers treat grocery stores as tourist attractions and discover some amazing local products during their visit.

Flying Naked

“Flying naked” may sound risqué, but it’s probably not what you think it is. A new term for traveling light, this viral trend is all about hitting the road with as little luggage as possible.

Sagrada Família is one of Barcelona’s most magical attractions, and the visit to this city is incomplete if you don’t get to admire it from the inside. Tickets for this Gaudí masterpiece don’t come cheap, but we’re here to help you buy them as cheaply as possible, without paying any unnecessary fees.

Direct Booking

Tickets for this imposing basilica should be bought directly through the official app or website of Sagrada Família. There are countless resellers offering the tickets at a higher price, but this is the safest and cheapest way to secure your ticket, and all other options are best avoided.

Ticket Type

As of 2024, the general ticket for Sagrada Família will set you back by 26 €, and you can download an audio guide on your phone free of charge. If you want to visit the tower on the Nativity or the Passion façade, you’ll have to shell out 36 €, while the guided tour for both options will cost you 4 € more.

General admission is obviously the cheapest option, and there are also reduced prices for students, seniors, children under 11, and people with disabilities.

Early Bird

Don’t wait until the last minute to buy your tickets, and don’t expect you’ll be able to do it on the spot. Tickets for Sagrada Familia are often sold out days or even weeks in advance, so it’s best to buy them as early as possible, especially if you’re planning to visit one of the towers.

Supermarkets never make it to the list of must-see tourist attractions, but they definitely deserve a moment of your time. If a visit to a local supermarket isn’t a part of your travel itinerary, here are five reasons why it should be.

Compare Prices

A visit to a supermarket will tell you a lot about the living standard of your destination country because you can easily compare the prices of the local products to the ones at home.

Discover Local Foods

Supermarkets are a great place to discover a wide range of local foods at reasonable prices and get a taste of the local culture without spending a dime.

Feel Like a Local

If you want to feel like a local in a new country, supermarkets are a place to be. In addition to immersing yourself in the local culture, you might pick up a simple phrase or two in the native language because you’ll hear it at every turn.

Save Some Money

Shopping at supermarkets is a great money saver because drinks and snacks are cheaper than anywhere else. You can even grab some fresh produce to prepare your own food instead of eating out all the time.

Find Great Souvenirs

Many items you find at supermarkets, from local sweets to condiments, can double down as unique souvenirs that won’t cost you a fortune.
