Excitement—and anxiety—can often leave one without an appetite. If you’re a nervous flyer, you may be familiar with the inability to eat. Yet, it’s super important to keep nourished while traveling. Most airlines offer meals, but delayed flights and layovers can leave your tummy grumbling in between. Dining at the airport can be a delicious experience, but there are some foods that are best to avoid.

Coffee

Coffee seems like the natural thing to nurse while at the airport, but the caffeine can actually be unfavorable before a flight. Because of its tendency to be a diuretic (and a laxative, for some people), coffee can make you want to run to the bathroom.

Salad Bar

Salads contain leafy greens which are a source of numerous vitamins, but are also uncooked. In other words, they’re a playground for germs to thrive. The last thing you want is to catch some foreign germ while at the airport.

Soda

If you’ve ever felt bloated while flying, there is a scientific reason why. Air pressure decreases at higher altitudes, which means that gas—including the kind in your gut—will expand on the plane. Carbonated drinks, or salty foods like French fries, are likely to leave you feeling pretty uncomfortable.
