When you’re a kid, one of the most beautiful and fascinating creatures you get to discover are butterflies. There are so many different kinds of butterflies, with amazing patterns on their wings, and often they’re not even afraid of humans. Butterfly gardens are an awesome place to discover this species because you get to see them up close and often they will even land on you. Here are some of the best.

Butterfly World, UK

Butterfly World has been open with ongoing construction since 2009 and already features some great butterfly facilities. It’s got education and research on-site, and plans for many vast outdoor gardens. But its crown jewel is a 300-ft-wide dome that houses 250 species of butterflies, where you can walk through and view thousands of butterflies up close. Its conservational efforts have even been endorsed by the likes of David Attenborough.

Cecil B. Day Butterfly Garden, Georgia, USA

The Cecil B. Day Garden is an indoor rainforest in the middle of the U.S., housing tons of tropical butterflies and plant species. Outside the vast greenhouse, local plants attract local species of butterflies as well for a total of 1,000 species.

Australian Butterfly Sanctuary

This butterfly sanctuary in Queensland also houses mainly local tropical species, with not only a tropical canopy and fauna but a waterfall and a stream flowing through it. You can here view over 1,500 species of local butterfly on your own or on a guided tour.
