In the 1980s, a colony of Mexican free-tailed bats found its home beneath Austin’s Congress Avenue Bridge. Since then, the colony has grown to 1.5 million bats, and watching them fly out for their nocturnal hunt in the evening is a marvelous sight. Of course, you can watch it in person for free just by being on the bridge or somewhere nearby around sunset.
