Brush Up on Airplane Etiquette

After a two-and-a-half-year break from traveling, it can feel strange getting back on a plane in 2023. Even the most frequent of flyers may have forgotten how best to behave onboard. If you’re set to jet off, here are three tips for airplane etiquette to make sure you have the best flight possible.

Headphones

When to wear headphones—and when not to—is extremely important. Definitely use the devices if you’re listening to something on your phone or tablet so that the entire plane doesn’t have to “enjoy” it with you. That said, always remove them if the flight attendant is trying to speak to you. Nothing worse than being unable to hear and just yelling, “What?!”

Overhead Compartments

With the plane only able to include so many compartments, the cubicles above are a shared space. Use them to store larger cases and carry-on bags, while keeping backpacks and handbags under the seat in front of you.

Bathrooms

Another shared space is the airplane lavatory. Please don’t throw diapers, liquid soap bottles, soda cans, wedding rings, cell phones, or any other bizarre items into the toilet. Someone will have to fish them out and it’s usually the flight attendants. Don’t let it be you that’s causing trouble!
