If there is one thing everyone is certain about when it comes to the people of Italy – they know how to live! Long before recreational travel and tourism were introduced to humanity, the rulers of the Roman Empire built villas on small paradise-like islands and spent their leisure time there.

One of the most fairytale-ish and lovely place that was a resort during the Roman Empire is the famous island of Capri. A highlight of the Amalfi Coast, the small island lies in the sea near the city of Naples.

The island is one of the heavenly places you can visit in Europe. Just minutes after you arrive at Marina Grande (the island’s main harbor), it will become clear to you why it was the choice of the Emperors.

The island has two towns – the town of Capri and the town of Anacapri, the latter of which is the higher town.

Don’t be fooled by its small size, the isle has many places that you should definitely visit, be it the Blue Grotto cave that will take your breath away or the magnificent Vila Jovis that was the residence of Emperor Tiberius.
