]]>We try our best to plan ahead, but sometimes problems arise that are out of our control. While there’s nothing we can do to change that, we have learned a thing or two about how to stay calm when travel anxiety rears its ugly head.
There’s nothing worse when you’re already stressed about travel than worrying you’ll miss your flight. Give yourself plenty of time for any unexpected delays by leaving for the airport several hours in advance. Worst case, you’ll have extra time to relax at the gate before you board.
There’s a reason comedians joke about airplane food time and time again. It’ll do in a pinch, but knowing you’ve got your favorite meal to look forward to can be an incredible source of calm in an otherwise stressful situation. Just be sure to check what’s permitted for your particular airline.
While it’s not always possible to fit all of your belongings into a carry-on bag, it is a good idea to pack an extra set of clothes that you can wear if your suitcase is lost. We also recommend keeping any other essentials like medication on you, just in case.

]]>With Christmas just around the corner, many of us are enjoying annual traditions like looking at Christmas lights. Exactly what these traditions look like will vary from family to family and city to city, but it is safe to say that there’s no shortage of spectacular Christmas light displays around the United States. Here are some of the best.
The Bronx Zoo is one of the best zoos in the entire US, and its annual light show does not disappoint. The show features lanterns made to look like popular animals as well as traditional light displays and entertainers who roam throughout the park. This year, Holiday Lights will run through January 8.
Just outside of Los Angeles, the Descanso botanical garden puts on a holiday light show that can only be described as a magical experience. The show utilizes the natural features of the forest alongside specialty lights to create an “enchanted” experience for all. Forest of Light also runs through January 8 this year.
Denver Botanic Gardens actually has two light displays—one at its downtown Denver location on York Street and one outside the city. They’re both worth a visit, but if you can only make one, we recommend checking out Blossoms of Light on York Street. Its twinkling bright colors create a fun, romantic environment perfect for a date night. ‘Blossoms’ runs through January 7.

]]>For some people, the more they realize the beauty of travel, the more upset they get because of all the other places they aren’t seeing. They start to feel like they need to see every little corner of the face of the earth because otherwise, they won’t have experienced life to the fullest. They see friends’ Instagrams showing countries they’ve been to and they get jealous. But this completely misses the point.
The places we visit are incredible, but it’s the experiences we have that make them meaningful. It’s the people we go with on these trips. It’s the people we meet. In other words, it’s not so much about traveling, but how we travel, that means something. If we’re constantly worried about the places we’re not seeing, we won’t be able to appreciate the places we are seeing. So just chill out and enjoy each destination as it comes!

]]>This tip is so simple, but so often overlooked: spend less time on your phone! The best way to go would be to actually turn it off or switch it to flight mode for at least a few hours a day. Rest assured that nothing terrible is going to happen if you just focus on resting and answer WhatsApp texts later.
Nothing beats chilling on the beach with your favorite music streaming app or a good book. Our hectic routines rarely leave a lot of time for us to properly enjoy those things, and weaving them into our vacation time can be a perfect way to get some more active rest (preferably while tanning).
This is actually an important one. When we go on vacation with our partner, with family, or with a group of friends, spending so much time together can become a bit intense. So don’t be shy to take some time for yourself and encourage others to do that too. It’s a great way to make sure you continue to enjoy each other’s company and make the most of your mutual time off.
