In addition to traveling, one of the world’s hottest trends today is tasting cuisines from all around the world. It’s not all about the Instagram filters—people are starting to truly appreciate the incredible delicacies that other cities have to offer. But is the only way to experience these cuisines to travel to these countries? Or is there a simpler way?

Yes, But It’s a Slippery Slope

Depending on where you live, there are generally a handful of places that allow you to try worldly cuisines. For instance, it’s not hard to find a sushi restaurant to experience Japanese cuisine or a pizza place to try out Italian cuisine. So the short answer is yes, you can totally experience worldly cuisines in your backyard.

But Are They Truly Authentic?

These local implementations of foreign cuisines may give you a nice idea of what it’s like, but more often than not they don’t tell the bigger picture. Every so often you find a restaurant with a chef who truly has done their homework. But most of the time, the food you eat locally isn’t even close to eating it in its source country. That’s not to say that the local versions aren’t delicious—they’re just not the more authentic you can find, and if you care about that stuff, you may want to travel to the country itself.
