Who knew that Teesside in Northern England was so ahead of the curve? The area situated between County Durham and North Yorkshire is home to the Teesside International Airport which was used by more than 173,000 passengers in 2022.

The little airport is now the first in the United Kingdom to allow travelers to take more than 3 ounces of liquid in their carry-on.

The infamous liquid rule implemented by the Transportation Security Administration applies to items like toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, and lotion. Anything over 3.4 ounces (100 ml) must rather be packed into a checked bag.

Those traveling through Teesside, however, will be allowed fly with a maximum of 2 liters of liquid in their hand luggage.

The move is thanks to a pair of new C3 scanners which use frontline technology to see inside bags. It also means that passengers no longer need to take out laptops or other electronic items to be scanned.

At the end of last year, the UK government announced that new screening technology would be implemented throughout Britain. The deadline has been set for June 2024, with Teesside International Airport clearly on trend.
