In the middle of European Russia lays the pulsating heart of this vast and magnificent country, the timeless Moscow.

For a period in history it was a capital of tsarist Russia, then the Soviet Union and now of the modern Russian Federation, which makes it one of the cities with the most historical significance on the continent.

It is also the second largest city in Europe, right after Istanbul, the capital of Turkey. But don’t mistake Moscow for something from the past – modern day Moscow is one of the wealthiest and most vibrant cities in Europe, famous for its nightlife that can rarely be experienced elsewhere.

In the center of the city lies the Red Square, one of the most beautiful squares in the world. There you can visit the mausoleum of Lenin, where the embalmed body of the great communist leader is on public display.

The square is also the location of the most recognizable landmark of Moscow and perhaps all of Russia – the enchanting, incredibly colorful Saint Basil’s Cathedral.

On one of the borders of the Red Square you can see the great Kremlin, the former tsar’s Moscow residence, which now serves as the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation and a popular museum.
