Fontainbleau: The Unknown Versailles

While the Palace of Versailles occupies the spotlight when it comes to French historical tourist sights, little is known about the many other castles and palaces around France that are definitely worth visiting. 

One such place is the Palace of Fontainebleau, which despite being one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe remains mainly unknown to people outside of France.  

As one of the largest palaces in France, Fontainebleau was used as a residence by the French royal family for centuries. It is located around 35 miles southeast from the French capital, in the famous forest of Fontainebleau, which is known as the royal hunting ground.

This marvelous palace is currently a museum and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is completely open to the public and everyone can enjoy its beautiful interior as well as the stunning court.
