France is a popular and ever-trending tourist destination. The reasons for this are many: its famous historical landmarks, diverse cultural attractions, beautiful sceneries, endless museums, restaurants and cafes, and what not. But if you’re only just a bit of a foodie, one of the first things that come to mind when you think of France is its amazing pastries. The streets of France are filled with so many amazing local bakeries (or patisseries) that it’s hard to know where to start your tasting spree. So, just to help get you started, here are the French pastries you just have to try.

French Croissant

This seems like stating the obvious, but there’s no way we could leave the croissant out of this list. The traditional French croissant contains a generous amount of butter and is then baked to perfection to achieve that dreamy soft-yet-crispy texture.

Crepe

Well, in case you didn’t know, French crepes come in two flavors: sweet and salty; and both kinds are worth trying. Crepes are in fact a type of thin pancakes rolled into wraps and filled with different kinds of delicious fillings, from Nutella spread, maple syrup, and confiture for sweet ones to cheese, ham, and eggs for the salty ones.

Macaroons

You’ve probably bumped into these colorful, sweet cookies before, but there’s nothing like trying the local version. Macaroons are one of France’s flag sweets, and their distinct colors make them a popular window display item. A traditional Macaroon is up of two colored almond cookies, brought together by delicious fillings such as chocolate, vanilla, coffee, or fruity flavors.
