Google always had its finger on the pulse of the travel industry, and they’ve recently shared their list of predictions for the upcoming season. It’s never too early to start planning your Thanksgiving and Christmas trips, and Google’s new trend forecast reveals which destinations are the biggest hit.
Google’s list of the top-searched destinations on Google Flights between November 24 and December 1 reveals where everyone will be traveling this Thanksgiving, including Orlando, Cancun, New York, Tokyo, and London. They recommend booking domestic flights in early October since they tend to be the cheapest 45 days before departure, with a low price range of 26-59 days out.
When it comes to Christmas and New Year’s Eve, Google Flight searches for the period between December 22 through January 5 show high interest in Tokyo, Orlando, Cancun, Miami, and New York. There’s an overlap between the two lists, and Google’s new report recommends booking Christmas flights earlier than later because prices have been lowest 58 days before departure, with the low price range being 36-72 days out.
Google also suggests that domestic flights don’t have to be booked as early as international, which tend to rise in price within 50 days of the flight itself. When it comes to prices on certain days of the week, flying on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday tends to be up to 13% more expensive in terms of domestic flights and 20% in terms of international flights.
