Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta is quickly developing into a tourist hotspot. While the city has been visited mainly by domestic and visitors from neighboring countries in the past, more international tourists are discovering Jakarta in recent years. This is why you should use the opportunity to explore the city’s hidden gems and secrets before they get crowded and lose their charm. Check out some of the best ones below.

Pasar Mayestik

Pasar Mayestik is where locals come to shop (and sell) in Jakarta. You can spend hours exploring the market, and even then, you’ll only scratch the surface of its offering. From textile and clothes to local food, anything you can think of, this place probably has it.

Wayang Museum

Wayang Museum is where you can learn more about wayang; a traditional shadow puppet theater form that originated on the Indonesian island of Java. The museum serves as a home to around 7,000 different puppets from both Indonesia and abroad.

Taman Ayodya

If you find yourself wanting some peace and quiet, head to Taman Ayodya. This small public park is located in the Blok M area and offers relaxing scenery with lots of flowers, trees, and artificial fountains. Strolling through the park is quite relaxing, as it isn’t crowded like some other parks in Jakarta.

Rumah Akar (Root House)

Rumah Akar, aka root house, is a unique building located in the old part of Jakarta. Its walls are covered with vines and roots, resulting in a haunted house vibe. However, the place is great for snapping photos.
