People travel for all different kinds of reasons, and one of those reasons is hiking. This is because true hikers appreciate the subtle differences in beauty in mountains all around the world—and oftentimes will fly to a country just to scale it. But if you’re just starting out, there are a few things you should know about hiking that may help you thrive better down the line. It’s important to find a proper balance in your routine, and here’s how to do it.

Starting Small

We’d like to state the importance of not scaling a mountain that you’re not ready for. Not only is it dangerous and unhealthy, but it can also turn you off to hiking down the line if you have a bad experience. In the beginning, make sure to find mountains that intrigue you, but that are also well within your wheelhouse of capabilities.

Working Your Way Up

Just as you would slowly work your way up a mountain, it’s importantly to slowly work your way towards more difficult mountains. Don’t be too hasty to climb the most intense mountains on the block. Trust the process, and you’ll get there! Not to mention the fact that the more patience you have, the better shape you’ll be in by the type you reach those high peaks.
