There should be a support group out there for the people who can’t help but overpack. Even the most experienced traveler can have a tendency to put too much in their suitcase. If you’d rather avoid having to pay for your bag being overweight, here are some things to remember when packing.

Less is More

No matter how long you are actually traveling for, pack as though you are going away for a week. Along the way, you can wash some items if necessary by making use of your hotel room sink or a laundromat.

Keep it Neutral

The French believe strongly in having a capsule wardrobe and that mentality is how you should pack your clothes. Stick to neutral colors like black, white, beige, and navy, and pack items that can be worn together to make different outfits. You can then mix things up with more colorful accessories.

Three Items or Less Rule

When it comes to footwear, never pack more than 3 pairs of shoes. Place the shoes at the bottom of the suitcase, near the wheels, as this will distribute the weight more evenly. You can also pack items in your shoes (like socks or other shoes!) to save space.
