Many countries have a specific thing for which they are renowned. You wouldn’t dream of going to The Netherlands and not indulging in cheese, or having pasta in Italy. The same is true when you visit a country that is well-known for its wine.

On a sunny day, one of the best activities you can do is visit a wine farm. Depending on the time of year, the vines might be lush and full of grapes, or recouping ahead of the new season. Either way, the option of wine tasting is always on the table. If you plan on venturing to a wine farm, here are some things to remember.

Line Your Stomach

Drinking alcohol on an empty stomach is not a smart idea. Not only will it get you drunk rather fast, but it may even leave you feeling ill. 0/10—do not recommend. In order to avoid such a scenario, make sure to have a decent breakfast (and possibly lunch) before indulging in wine tasting. Your stomach will thank you.

Spit Bucket Provided

The idea of spitting out wine may seem undignified, but it is very common at wine farms. In fact, a bucket is provided just for that. If you don’t want to become intoxicated, free to spit out the wine after tasting it if you don’t want—but it’s also perfectly fine to finish your glass if you fancy!

Ditch the Perfume

Much of wine tasting involves using your nose as you are encouraged to sniff the wine and pick up any aromas you detect. Wearing perfume can interfere with this process, so rather avoid it. Things like smoking, gum, and breath mints can also alter your tastebuds.
