But here’s the thing: it defeats the purpose if you don’t actually go to the right places—and when it comes to Switzerland, Interlaken is that place.
Countryside Daydream
If you go to a city such as Zurich, there are definitely wonderful things to see—but it still gives off that “big city” vibe you’re used to. In order to truly be blown away, you need to take a train from Zurich down to Interlaken. That’s where the countryside is, and that’s where you’ll see snowy mountains, colorful trees, and beautiful views as far as the eye can see.

It’s not just Interlaken, though. We actually just recommend using it as a base—because it’s an epicenter of a handful of gorgeous surrounding towns such as Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, and Brienz. Lauterbrunnen, for instance, is the kind of place that will make your mouth drop instantly—while Grindelwald will make you feel like you walked into a Christmas fairy tale. So while Interlaken is the place to be, it’s also just as important to visit the surrounding towns.
