Make Sure to Check Out These Glaciers Near Anchorage, Alaska

Anchorage is the best place to start your Alaskan adventure, but all the magic actually happens once you step outside of this city. It’s surrounded by many natural wonders, and these three glaciers definitely deserve a spot on your bucket list.

Knik Glacier

Located just 50 miles east of Anchorage, this is one of the easiest glaciers to reach when you’re in this city.  It’s a pretty popular tourist attraction, and several companies in the area are offering tours to nature lovers visiting Alaska.

Portage Glacier

A visit to Anchorage is not complete without a day trip to Portage Glacier, since it’s located about an hour and half away from Alaska’s most populated city. Make sure to hike to Portage Lake if you ever find yourself near this breathtaking glacier.

Matanuska Glacier

Matanuska Glacier is the largest glacier accessible by car not only in Alaska, but in the United States at large. That’s reason enough to put it on your bucket list, despite the fact it’s a bit difficult to reach since it’s located 100 miles away from Anchorage.
