It seems that the older we get, the more medication we tend to take. If this sounds relatable, you’re probably packing a few pills in your case whenever you embark on a trip. It can be tricky traveling with medication, but these tips are exactly what the doctor ordered.

Keep Your Meds Close

As much as we hope it won’t happen, checked-in baggage does get lost on occasion. If you need to take your medication daily, or even hourly, you can’t afford it to go missing. Always pack medication in your carry-on. On the chance that you lose your medication during transit, immediately file a lost baggage claim with your airline before leaving the airport and save the claim ticket.

Stock Up

Going to be away for a while? Most doctors and pharmacies are happy to give an additional dose of medication that you can keep on hand. This also helps if you decide to stay on a bit longer. Most of all, make sure you have a copy of your prescription in case you need to get a refill.

Respect the TSA

No one is a fan of the Transportation Security Authority and their rules, but there is some leeway when it comes to medication. Passengers are allowed to pack medically necessary liquids, medication, and creams in excess of 3.4 ounces in their carry-on bag. If you have any questions, you’ll find a video about traveling with meds on the TSA website.
