No matter how long you’ve been in a relationship, taking your first vacation together as a couple is a huge milestone. Traveling presents a whole new set of challenges and you may find yourself wanting to kill your partner by the end of it. Here are some tips to ensure your first vacay is not your last.

Talk About the Big Things, and the Little Things

Before you embark on your journey, take some time to discuss things like what activities you both want to do, what time to wake up, how often to eat, how much alone time to have. These will ensure that the two of you are on the same page and have the same expectations for the trip.

Money in Mind

As uncomfortable as it might be to discuss finances, it needs to be done. Talk about having a vacation budget, who will pay for what, and splitting bills. Money is the number one thing that couples fight about, so rather iron it out before you leave.

Compromise is Key

As two different people, you naturally will not agree on everything at all times. Both of you need to compromise on things so that a happy medium can be reached. Remember, willingness to compromise is sometimes more important than the compromise itself.

Acknowledge and Accept

Will there be stressful moments while traveling? Yes! Will the pair of you always agree on how to navigate the situation? No. Accept that your partner may handle stress differently than how you do. Once things have calmed down, share what the experience was like for both of you and why you each handled it the way you did.
