If you are considering visiting Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 2023, the next few months are the time to do it. This way, you can see the biggest exhibit of paintings by 17th-century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer ever staged.

Staged at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum, the exhibition will be on display from February 10th to June 4th and will feature 28 of the artist’s paintings, some of them rarely shown to the public.

Why is This Exhibit So Special

Johannes Vermeer is a Dutch Baroque painter who was relatively unknown during his lifetime. He is renowned for his meticulous painting style, which included great attention to detail, a tendency to leave hidden references in his works, and the use of expensive pigments. He worked slowly, creating no more than two paintings a year.

Overall, experts believe he only made around 60 paintings during his lifetime, with 35 confirmed to be in existence today. This means that Rijksmuseum’s exhibit will feature 80 percent of Vermeer’s remaining works, including The Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Milkmaid, and Girl Reading a Letter at the Open Window, which was never on public display before.

Also, Vermeer’s paintings are scattered all over the world. They are held in museums in U.S., UK, Ireland, Germany, France, and Netherlands, making it really hard to check them all out. It will surely be a long time before they are gathered at the same place again, making the Rijksmuseum’s exhibit a must-see for all art lovers.
