Few things say “fall is here” more than visiting your local farm for an afternoon of pumpkin picking. Who among us doesn’t have memories of days spent running through rows and rows of gourds in search of one that was perfectly round and just the right shade of orange? We always looked forward to bringing them home to carve into jack-o’-lanterns before roasting the seeds and making pumpkin pie. While Los Angeles isn’t exactly known for its fall weather, this hasn’t stopped farms in the area from growing the season’s most popular fruit (yes, pumpkin is technically a fruit.) Here are some of the best places around LA for pumpkin picking:

Pumpkin City

Located in Laguna Hills about an hour outside of LA, Pumpkin City’s pumpkin farm is well worth the drive. The Harvest Festival offers games and activities for all ages and admission is free during the week before 4 PM.

Tanaka Farms

The pumpkin patch at Tanaka Farms in Irvine opens in the middle of September and offers wagon rides and other family-friendly activities in addition to pick-your-own pumpkin events. Parking is limited, so parking passes do need to be purchased in advance.

Tina’s Pumpkin Patch

Tina’s Pumpkin Patch in Sherman Oaks is a great place to spend an afternoon with young children. In addition to pumpkins, the patch has a petting zoo and children’s train to enjoy for $3.50 as well as a free straw maze to play and run around in.
