With prices of just about everything on the increase, travel has become one of the luxuries to fall by the wayside—but it doesn’t have to. As your wanderlust heart no doubt knows, exploring the world is a calling, so here are some hacks to make it more affordable.

When to Book

If you are flying to your destination, it all comes down to the right time to book flights. Buying tickets at least 6 months in advance can save a couple hundred dollars, but not everyone can plan that far ahead. Flight prices not only fluctuate on different days of the week, but during the day as well! To save some money, book in the afternoon as prices tend to be higher in the morning when business travelers book most of their flights.

Go Local

These days, it’s impossible to be without a cellphone (how else do we update our Story with travel pics?!) but you can be left with a hefty bill if you aren’t careful. Instead of activating international roaming which can result in crazy charges, swap your SIM card for a local one when you arrive at your destination.

Change Money Ahead of Time

Although most countries accept credit cards and services like Apple Pay, it’s still a good idea to have a bit of cash on hand. If you’re heading to a country with a different currency to your own, avoid changing money at the airport as they are notorious for offering poor exchange rates.
