When it comes to traveling, we all know that flights can be pretty darn expensive. They can often add up to exorbitant amounts of hard-earned dollars, which can leave you looking for ways to budget yourself. In order to save money on flights, one thing you might want to consider is to book flights months in advance. But is this practice really beneficial?

If You Can Swing It—Yes

The short answer is that, yes, booking flights a few months in advance usually are cheaper than if you bought them closer to the date. However, there are many reasons that this is a lot easier said than done. Most of the time, you don’t even know that you’re flying that far in advance. And even when you do, there are usually plenty of logistical aspects that you don’t necessarily want to commit to just yet.

It’s Not Always Cheaper

Another thing to point out is that it’s not always cheaper to book flights that far in advance. Generally can be, but sometimes airlines will lower their prices at random times for various reasons, whether it’s a flash sale or simply desperation to get tickets sold. So unless you’re super confident about making a commitment so far ahead of time, there are certain benefits to waiting for a little.
