Should You Really Be Climbing Mount Everest?

One of the most breathtaking landmarks in the entire world is none other than Mount Everest. Standing tall at 29,032 feet, it’s become somewhat of a fantasy for thousands and thousands of people throughout the years to climb it. Many have attempted and successfully stood atop the summit, while many have unfortunately perished along the way. If you’re considering climbing Mount Everest, here are some questions you may want to consider asking yourself first.

Why Are You Really Doing This?

This question might sound like it’s coming off a bit personal, but it’s a question that has been asked many times before. Everest isn’t exactly a cakewalk. It can take years and years of training to be able to do it, not to mention even more years of mountaineering experience. And even if you have all of the necessary accolades, your survival is still not guaranteed. So why are you doing it?

If you’re only doing it so you can tell people that you climbed Mount Everest, we suggest you don’t do it. The only reason you should ever climb the mountain is because you simply want to do it with every fiber of your being. You live, breathe, eat, sleep, and bleed mountaineering, and Everest to you is the penultimate achievement. If that’s the case, then go ahead—but if it’s to appease or impress someone else, you may be barking up the wrong mountain.
