Birch Syrup

Do you want to take a taste of Alaska home with you, but packing Alaskan salmon in your suitcase isn’t an option? A jar of birch syrup is your best bet, and you can use it to top everything from ice cream to pancakes.

Among the glaciers in Alaska, you can find spectacular nature reserves with vast expanses of wildlife and breathtaking views.

The most visited area in Alaska is the inner passage in southeast Alaska. The most impressive natural site in the area is Glacier Bay, an area of glaciers, deep fjords, forests, and wildlife.

The Central South Alaska region is also relatively touristy. This area is home to Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska and the only one to offer urban landscapes and skyscrapers alongside rich cultural life.

In central Alaska is the Denali National Park, featuring Mount McKinley—the highest peak in North America. The park is huge, containing glaciers, green glacial valleys, forests, Arctic prairie landscapes, mountains, lakes, meandering rivers, and a massive supply of wildlife—such as bears, wolves, and deer.

Southwest Alaska is the least visited area in the country, and the tourists who come to it mostly focus on the island of Kodiak, whose main attraction is a population of about 3,000 brown bears living in its territory.

Adventure enthusiasts will be happy to know that Alaska offers plenty of activities for adrenaline enthusiasts—such as hiking and climbing, boating in kayaks, glacier walking, flying over glaciers, whiskey, hikes, rafting, and more.

Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska is a perfect destination for anyone in search of beautiful scenery and exotic wildlife. It’s located at the foot of Mount Seward and spreads across over 600,000 acres. More than 60% of the national park is covered in ice. The unique fjords and valleys you can see here are formed by tidewater glaciers that come out of the massive icefield. You can see huge icebergs floating in the fjords and it’s a sight you can’t see in any other place.

Kenai Fjords National Park was established in 1978 as a national monument. In 1980, it was turned into a national park in an attempt to preserve the beautiful nature it contains. The move to a national park also provided access to more travelers who can now enjoy this wonder of nature.

One of the best things you can see in Kenai Fjords is the diverse wildlife. Among the animals that live there are coyotes, bears, mountain goats, beavers, wolverines, etc. In the water, you can see sea otters, sea lions whales, porpoises, and harbor seals. And we must mention nearly 200 species of birds that are everywhere around the park.

For the best experience, go during summer when the days are long and the sea is calm.

When you think about going on a cruise, what comes to mind? You probably associate this fun vacation choice with the sun, warm weather, and beaches, which is usually true! However, if you are looking for a more natural and bare-bones experience for your next trip, why not consider a cruise in the Last Frontier?

Why You Should Do It

Alaskan cruises have grown in popularity in recent years as curious travelers have begun to discover all of the natural marvels which this northwestern US state bordering the Arctic Circle has to offer.

From glaciers to ice floes to small, charming towns on the coast, an Alaskan cruise breaks every notion of what you thought a cruise was and simultaneously offers a bevy of unique opportunities to those who choose to take one.

Where You’ll Go

A typical Alaskan cruise route leaves from Seattle, WA, or Vancouver, BC, and traces up the northwest coast to the fjords, inner passages, and glaciers of southeastern Alaska. There are often stops in cities and towns like Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan, great places to check out authentic Alaskan culture.

Would you consider taking an Alaskan cruise? This one-of-a-kind experience is sure to leave you stunned.
