Cycling through the Trees is the newest addition in the Limburg cycle route network, which allows cyclists and adventurers to enjoy the natural landscape of Limburg in a unique way. This cycling and walking experience is a 32 feet elevated circular bike path built through the treetops of the Bosland forest, located about an hour away from Brussels.

The project was initiated by Visit Limburg and designed by landscape architect Pieter Daenen in collaboration with architects De Gregorio & Partners. The main idea behind the design of the cycle bridge and its construction within the forest was to bring out the beauty and importance of the existing flora and fauna.

The structure forms a gradually-inclined path that allows visitors to ride along a 100-meter (328 feet) diameter double circle that offers 360° views of the surrounding landscape. At the start of the path, there is an information pavilion built from stacked recycled logs, where visitors can relax and enjoy the view of the forest. The path also offers multiple alcoves with benches to sit and rest along the way.

This is only the second project in a series of innovative experiences enabling cyclists to enjoy the beauty of nature along the Limburg cycle route network. The attraction was an instant success and brought more than 70,000 people in the first four weeks only. Now, over 2,000 people use it every day. Due to this project’s popularity, Visit Limburg is planning on building more similar attractions in the future. This is a must-see for nature lovers and those who enjoy cycling tourism.

Zhongshuge bookstore is located in the commercial center of Star Avenue, Binjiang District, in Chongqing, China. It was designed by XL-Muse studio, whose main idea was to create a space that will prove just how big of a role reading plays in society, and how it is, similar to breathing, vital for our existence.

The design was inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Yangzhou, which used to be a place where many ancient writers and poets gathered in the past.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BxJTvU9HXcL/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

The plain glass exterior of the building hides the sleek interior made of black, mirrored ceilings and floors, which create an illusion of entering a never-ending tunnel made of books.

The bookstore is divided into four different areas, each inviting visitors to get lost amongst the thousands of books on display. The pure white “reader’s forest” zone leads into a corridor with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves extending endlessly to the side. There is also a peaceful reading room with benches to relax on, a theatrical readers’ hall, and a playground-inspired children’s area. On the 4th floor, there is a leisure area, where visitors can enjoy a good cup of coffee or tea.

The most intriguing aspect of the space is the double-height hall featuring zig-zagging sets of stairs that lead up and across tall bookshelves that line the walls. The stairs double up as seats, where visitors are encouraged to rest and read as long as they wish to.

Zhongshuge bookstore is a great place to not only read books but also take the time to think and interact with other visitors. The mirroring surfaces and ceilings dramatically expand the view, creating a sense of infinity, which further emphasizes the importance of reading. It is a creative space where you can browse for a new favorite story or simply spend hours enjoying the peaceful ambiance that will spark your imagination.

Museums hold within them magnificent treasures, teaching us about art, history and science. But some museums are also wonderful to look at on the outside as well. Here is Europe’s greatest museum architecture.

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (Basque Country, Spain)

Opened in 1997 after only four years of construction, this museum of modern and contemporary art designed by the famous architect Frank Gehry, completely transformed the city of Bilbao. This resulted in what is now known as the “Bilbao Effect,” bringing over one million visitors yearly and boosting the economy of the whole region.

The museum has hosted over a hundred exhibitions to this date and has successfully become the Basque city’s landmark. The main structure is made out of silver titanium, sandstone and glass, appearing airy and playful, with complex, ‬swirling forms that resemble different shapes from each side. Every year, it is flooded by art and architecture fans from all over the world.

Hemisferic Museum (Valencia, Spain)

Built in 1998, as the first of eight buildings in the City of Arts and Sciences complex, The Hemisferic is a Laserium, Planetarium and IMAX cinema all in one. This remarkable building designed by Santiago Calatrava, is one of the most important modern tourist destinations in the city of Valencia.

Its iconic half-sphere shape reflects in the surrounding 24,000 square meter wide water pool, creating the illusion of the eye as a whole, which sparked the nickname “Eye of Knowledge.” The symbolism is meant to represent the observation of the world that visitors can experience by enjoying numerous audiovisual projections this place has to offer.

Kunsthaus Graz (Austria)

This museum was built in 2003, when Graz held the title of the European Capital of Culture. It was designed by architects Sir Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, whose idea was to step away from the usual museum structure, and experiment with shape and form. This resulted in a bulbous shape with numerous skylight shafts that protrude from the top, making the building look like a giant alien heart.

Despite its strangeness and the contrast it makes with the more traditional historic architecture around it, it has become a beloved landmark of the city.

Porto is the second largest city in Portugal and one of the major cities of the Iberian Peninsula. The city of Porto has a vast architectural heritage because of its long history.

Five temporary gallery spaces have been designed in the city by architects to house a traveling art exhibition. The exhibition, “Live Uncertainty: An Exhibition After the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo,” is a continuation of the traveling exhibition series that was presented in São Paulo’s 32nd Bienal from September to December of 2016. This exhibition is inspired by the ongoing distress our society is currently experiencing.

For this recent exhibition, five local architecture studios were asked to create a pavilion. “It’s a playful combination of pragmatic seriousness and frivolous irony. A composition where each element has its own value, complementing and contradicting each other,” said the architects.
