]]>The construction of the Hungarian House of Parliament began in the 19th century, more precisely in 1885, and it was finished 17 years later, on October 8th 1902, only 5 weeks after its designer Imre Steindel died. He never had a chance to see his masterpiece finished.
Materials used in building the Parliament were exclusively of Hungarian origin, with one exception: 6-meter-tall marble monoliths along the main stairs were from Sweden.
The Hungarian House of Parliament bathes in gold. At the time of its construction it was decorated with 22-23 carat gold. Despite the gold’s thinness, the total amount is 40 kilos, because it was used in so many places.
Nandor Reischl was in charge of the conduit, gas and water system, so he and his family had to live in an apartment located in the Parliament’s basement, where his children were born.
