Spooky season is upon us, and if you’re like us, you’re looking forward to plenty of nights watching horror movies and checking out haunted houses with friends. While we know that most Halloween attractions are really just for fun, that doesn’t mean that some haunts aren’t the real deal, and for some reason, it turns out that ghosts seem to enjoy a good happy hour. Read on to learn more about some of the most haunted restaurants in America.

The Stanley Hotel – Estes Park, Colorado

Fans of Stephen King’s 1977 horror novel “The Shining,” may be familiar with the Stanley Hotel as the inspiration behind the story’s Overlook Hotel. In real life, the Stanley is believed to be one of the most haunted hotels in America, occupied by the ghost of its former owner Freelan Stanley’s wife Flora, among other spirits. With four restaurants and a whiskey bar, it has no shortage of places for guests hoping to encounter some paranormal activity to dine as they wait.

Bullock Hotel – Deadwood, South Dakota

Located in the historic town of Deadwood, this hotel and restaurant dates back to the days of the Wild West. Visitors and hotel workers have reported encounters with the hotel’s original owner, Seth Bullock, since his death in 1919, sharing that his ghost continues to keep a watchful eye over the establishment. Enjoy a meal at Bully’s, the in-house restaurant and bar, or book a room and stay overnight—if you’re brave enough, that is.

The Pirates’ House – Savannah, Georgia

One of Savannah’s oldest restaurants is also believed to be the city’s most haunted. Since 1754, The Pirates’ House has hosted more than its fair share of questionable guests, initially operating as a gathering place for criminals and sailors. Today, its historic charm and fascinating history draw diners from around the world hoping to catch a glimpse of pirate apparitions.

Fall will be here before we know it, and one of the things we’re most looking forward to is planning a trip to see the foliage. While hiking and road trips are both great ways to take in the views, this year, we thought it might be fun to mix things up a bit with a train ride. Fortunately, there are plenty of railways throughout the US that make for excellent front row seats to some of the best foliage in the country. Here are a few we’re especially excited about.

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, Ohio

Just outside of Cleveland in Ohio’s Cuyahoga Valley National Park, this historic railroad offers passengers a front row seat to an impressive display of hickories and oaks. Come fall, the trees burst into a tapestry of rich autumnal colors, typically peaking toward the end of October. The line even has special dome cars with floor-to-ceiling windows for optimal foliage gazing.

Mount Washington Cog Railway

Renowned as the world’s first mountain-climbing cog railway, this line provides passengers with a unique perspective as it ascends to the summit of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. Views from the railway are spectacular year-round, but are even more beautiful when the leaves start to change.

Georgetown Loop Railroad

West of the Mississippi, the historic Georgetown Loop Railroad winds between former mining towns Georgetown and Silver Plume at heights of up to 600 feet. While perhaps not for the faint of heart, the journey does offer some truly incredible foliage views for those who don’t mind venturing to such altitudes. The line even hosts fall-themed events throughout the season such as a Fall Colors Train and a Pumpkinfest ride!

Each U.S. state has some pretty stunning national parks in store, but none of them compares to Colorado. The Centennial State will win you over with its breathtaking landscapes and natural diversity, and it owes its stunning beauty to these four national parks.

Rocky Mountain National Park

The Rocky Mountains are one of Colorado’s top attractions, and they’re located in the heart of this sprawling national park. Defined by towering peaks, lush forests, rocky trails, alpine lakes, and diverse wildlife, this is the first national park you should check out while exploring Colorado.

Mesa Verde National Park

If you want to explore both Colorado’s natural beauty and cultural heritage during your visit, Mesa Verde is the place to be. Its iconic cliff dwellings offer a unique insight into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who inhabited these grounds.

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve

Great Sand Dunes offer a stark contrast to the alpine environment of the other national parks this state is best known for. Take a break from rocky cliffs and mountain peaks, and get ready to explore some of the tallest sand dunes in this corner of the world.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Black Canyon doesn’t get as much attention as the previous three national parks, but that doesn’t make it any less stunning. It surrounds the narrow gorge carved by the Gunnison River, and it’s home to one of the steepest mountain descents in North America.

Denver is one of the American metropolises that have been thriving ever since the Old West era, and it now offers something for travelers of all ages. If you ever find yourself in the capital of Colorado with your entire family, here are three spots that you shouldn’t miss for the world.

Denver Zoo

Zoos are one of the most popular family attractions and it goes without saying that Denver has one in store. It’s the first zoo in the U.S. to replace cages with naturalistic zoo enclosures and it’s well-known for being named the greenest zoo in the country back in 2012.

Elitch Gardens

Don’t let the name of this popular kid-friendly attraction trick you since it’s not actually a garden, but an amusement park with many fun rides on its grounds. In addition to thrill rides and rollercoasters, you can also find a water park on its premises, featuring water slides, a water playground, a lazy river, and much more.

Downtown Aquarium

Located just across the street from Elitch Gardens, Downtown Aquarium is another must-see kid-friendly attraction in Denver. In addition to the state-of-the-art aquarium with over 500 species, you can also find a restaurant and lounge on its premises.

Colorado is absolutely chock-full of amazing places to hike, camp, rock climb, and other adventure sports. Whether you visit for business or pleasure, finding time for at least a couple of hikes will greatly enhance your trip. It’s hard to choose just a few trails because they are countless all over the state, but here are three of the best to check out.

Royal Arch

Located at the century-old Chautauqua nature and culture center, the Royal Arch is a popular hiking destination among locals and tourists alike. The natural arched rock formation is found at the top of several different trails, where you can see amazing views of the Flatirons. Be sure to look at a map of the trails and plan your route up from the Chautauqua Trailhead.

Ouray Perimeter Trail

With amazing views of the town of Ouray’s amazing pastoral environment, this trail is great for both longer and shorter hikes: since it’s a loop around town it’s possible to just hike smaller sections of the trail rather than going all the way around. This one features many awesome natural phenomena such as natural pools, caves, and waterfalls.

Rattlesnake Canyon

If you love desert views and getting away from society, then this is a great place to start. You’ll need to drive off-road or hike over from another trail just to reach this hiking area, which features sandstone-layered rock and the red-orange marvel of pure desert.

Colorado has always been one of the most incredible places to visit in America. Most people love the state because of its beautiful rocky mountains, but which city in Colorado is the best? Here’s why Boulder, Colorado, is actually the unsung hero when it comes to the best cities in this incredible state.

It Has All The Mountains

Okay, this might be a little bit of an exaggeration. It’s not like Boulder has literally all of the mountains, but it’s definitely got a lot more than many of the other cities in Colorado. If you live in Denver, you have to drive a solid 45 minutes to get to some mountains—but in Boulder it’s right in your backyard.

It Has Incredible Landscapes

In addition to the beautiful hikes, trails, and mountains, there are also incredible waterfalls you can visit in Boulder. Indeed, it’s a huge tourist destination, and there are people from all over America who come to visit Boulder as a highlight.

It’s Cozy

Finally, with all of its amazing attractions, it’s not a very congested city. It’s not hustle, bustle, and uncomfortable. Instead, it’s cozy and quaint—and this is the final nail on the head for what makes Boulder such an amazing city.

America’s full of ski towns, and some of the best ones happen to be in Colorado. Between the deserts, river canyons, and the snow-covered Rocky Mountains, the Western state is diverse and when it comes to skiing, it’s the place to be. Whether you’re looking for challenging terrain, luxury ski lodges, or lots to do on the slopes, make sure you visit one of these three ski towns in Colorado.

Telluride

Surrounded on three sides by 14,000-foot peaks, this former mining town lies in a box canyon, and its natural beauty and solitude can’t be matched. Check out the free, scenic gondola that links Telluride to Mountain Village. Telluride Ski Resort has an average annual snowfall of 280 inches, 148 trails, and many terrain parks.

Breckenridge

The state’s largest historic district is in Breckenridge and Western movie sets have used it as a backdrop for ski runs. You can hop between mountains and explore different terrain on the free Summit Stage bus service to Cooper Mountain and Keystone. For snowshoe and crosscountry ski trails head to Breckenridge Nordic Center.

Vail

Vail is one of the country’s most famous ski destinations and you don’t want to miss Vail Ski Resort. There are also tons of five-star hotels and a great bar and restaurant scene. Vail Village and Lionshead Village can be found at the base of the ski resort and they have more than 5,000 acres of skiable land.
