Visiting Grand Canyon, Arizona, is truly an amazing experience. It is estimated that more than five million people do this on a yearly basis, and most of them have the time of their life—at least those that don’t usually end up making some beginner tourist mistakes that spoil their trip. Continue reading to find out the most common ones and how to avoid them.

Failing to Plan Ahead

If you want to visit Grand Canyon next year, you should start planning now. Make your reservations, know which sports you want to check out, and have everything in place as early as possible. As we mentioned earlier, Grand Canyon is quite popular, and you don’t want the stress of scrambling for accommodation and tour spots a few days before you are set to go.

Not Wearing Proper Clothes and Shoes

A visit to the Grand Canyon is far from a field trip. You want to be dressed properly for the weather and have proper footwear. The latter is extremely important since you will be walking a lot and on rough terrain.

Thinking it is Only Worth Visiting in the Summer

Summer might actually be the worst time to visit Grand Canyon. Sure, you will minimize the risk of rain or cold, but you risk everything else. Grand Canyon is not only overcrowded in the summer, but it can get unbearably hot, making the exploration a challenge. During other seasons, you can see the same things and have a better overall experience.

Not Following the Rules

The rules that are set in place for Grand Canyon visitors are there for a reason. Follow the rules, and you won’t get yourself in a dangerous situation or unnecessary risk. This includes not feeding the wild animals and not wandering from the marked trails.

Visiting the Grand Canyon is a one-of-a-kind experience. The place stuns with its amazing landscapes and untouched nature while also providing opportunities to enjoy numerous outdoor activities that will make your trip worthwhile. However, if you want to have a truly enjoyable experience, there are some tips you should take note of. Check them out below.

Make Reservations

If you want to spend more than one day at Grand Canyon, then you’ll need a place to spend the night. Several lodging options are available, but all of them require you to make reservations several months ahead. The alternative to this are camping sites and RV parks, most of which work on the “first come, first served” principle.

Don’t Arrive Between 9 am and 5 pm

To avoid large crowds and long waiting lines, you should look to get there really early or really late. According to Grand Canyon National Park Service, if you arrive anywhere between 9 am and 5 pm, you will wait for at least two hours on average before getting in.

Leave Your Pets at Home

The trip to Grand Canyon is the one your pet should sit out. Pets are only allowed to be in some parts of the Grand Canyon complex and never below the canyon rim or on inner canyon trails. The restrictions are imposed for the safety of pets as the harsh desert environment won’t be too friendly for them.

Prepare Yourself for Extremes

Speaking about the harsh desert environment, the Grand Canyon isn’t easy on humans as well. You should prepare yourself for some significant elevation changes and severe heat if you visit in the summer. Wear appropriate clothes and equip yourself with water and snacks.

The Grand Canyon is the first place that comes to mind when someone mentions Arizona, but it’s not the only natural wonder that this state has in store. Marvels of nature are scattered all across Arizona, and here are three that you shouldn’t miss for the world while exploring it.

Antelope Canyon

The Grand Canyon may be Arizona’s most picture-perfect wonder, but it’s not the only Instagram-friendly spot that it has in store. Antelope Canyon is just as picturesque and it will rock your world with its curvy angles and breathtaking light shafts.

Coconino National Forest

Red sandstone mountains can be found in abundance all across Arizona, and Coconino National Forest is one of the very best examples. This wilderness and recreation area is best known for its natural diversity, and you should make sure to check out its famed red rocks and vast pine forests during your visit to the Grand Canyon State.

Monument Valley

Another red sandstone mountain you can find in Arizona, Monument Valley is located within the territory of the Navajo Nation Reservation near the Utah border. It’s one of the state’s most recognizable attractions, and if it looks familiar, it’s probably because you’ve seen it in many classic western movies.

2020 has led to a damper being put on a lot of our travel plans, as the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed down travel and made it outright impossible in some cases. Fortunately, there are more and more virtual tours available these days, which can temporarily transport us to a completely different place.

One of my favorite virtual tours I have discovered recently is a tour of the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.

The Grand Canyon National Park is the home to one of the most recognizable natural wonders in the United States. The most common route used to hike the Grand Canyon is the Bright Angel Trail, which begins on the canyon’s South Rim and leads all the way down to the Colorado River.

This eight-mile long trail is one of the newest virtual treks Google Maps has made available in a 100% virtual format.

Doing this hike in real life is difficult and strenuous—with a sixteen-mile round trip, a 10% average grade, and unpredictable and varied temperatures making it a hike that’s best for experienced trekkers.

Whether or not you have this type of expertise, observing the burnt red natural landscape and the Colorado River coursing through the canyon on this virtual trek can be done from the safety and comfort of your own home. It’s a brilliant way to lose yourself in one of the most impressive places on Earth.

So, if you find yourself with wanderlust and a desire to seek out something new while you’re at home, a visit to the Grand Canyon National Park and a hike on its Bright Angel Trail might just be the remedy you were looking for.

We’ve all been to a tourist destination we were dying to see just to find it packed with people. It can take away from the experience sometimes. But often these famous sites have unknown activities or areas that are less traversed that will offer you an out-of-the-ordinary opportunity. We’ve taken the liberty of finding cool sites that are off the beaten path at some of your favorite destinations.

The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is physically massive, and there is so much to do beyond sightseeing from the edge of the canyon, hiking, and white-water rafting. For one, you can check out the Skywalk in the western Grand Canyon for a much more exciting sightseeing experience. The walkway extends 70 feet beyond the edge of the canyon, jutting into the void in a huge horseshoe shape. The area also offers helicopter tours. There are also opportunities in the vicinity to learn about ranching.

Mount Rushmore

If you ask anyone about Mount Rushmore, all they can probably tell you is it’s the mountain with the presidents’ faces—though maybe not which presidents (FYI it’s Theodore Roosevelt, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson). However, there is so much more to be found in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Historically, both gold and fossils have been found there, so there are opportunities to go on archaeological digs. The area also boasts a national forest with incredible views and great fly-fishing.

Sequoia National Park

This protected nature reserve offers far more than just big trees—although it is important to note these marvels of nature. While California Redwoods are the tallest trees in the world, sequoias found in the Sierra Nevada mountains are the biggest in circumference and volume. Check out the Giant Forest Museum. Beyond the typical hiking, camping, fishing, and other outdoor activities found at national parks, Sequoia has a marble cavern to explore and the opportunity to go horseback riding. Additionally, Moro Rock and the other granite domes can be scaled for incredible views.

The whole world is in a really weird situation right now. Because of the coronavirus outbreak, many people are stuck at home with nowhere to go for the upcoming few months. If you’re feeling bad because you can’t travel right now, it’s the perfect time to take some virtual vacations! Here are some of our favorite tours.

Machu Picchu

This ancient site in Peru gets more than 500,000 millions of visitors per year, but now that people are prevented from traveling you can explore it from your home. Take a virtual tour here and you’ll definitely want to see it in person one day!

The Grand Canyon

It’s estimated that 6 million people come to see the Grand Canyon every year and you now have a chance to explore the site without crowds, as you sit comfortably at your home. How amazing is that?

Sistine Chapel

Vatican’s Sistine Chapel is famous for its Renaissance frescoes painted by Michelangelo, and it’s probably the most visited room in the world. It gets around 5 million visitors each year but if you explore it using this link, you can admire the artwork without anybody around you and for as long as you want.

So, you’re taking a family vacation this year. But maybe you don’t know where to go. We’ve taken the guesswork out of choosing the perfect family vacation destination for you. Read on for some child-friendly suggestions:

A skiing adventure

For a fun skiing adventure, head to Beaver Creek in the Colorado Rockies. It’s well-geared for children, with loads of activities for the whole family, including skiing lessons, ice skating, trails, snow tubing, snowshoeing, and snowmobile rides.

Other skiing destinations include Park City in Utah, Keystone, Colorado, Massachusetts’ Jiminy Peak, and Boone & Blowing Rock in North Carolina.

Go island style

An island vacation might be just what the doctor ordered. There are plenty of all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean that offer loads of activities and fun for kids.

Other places to consider are Hawaii’s Kauai island or the Florida Keys closer to home. You could even cruise to your destination for extra fun.

The Grand Canyon

Home to some of the most spectacular views in the world, The Grand Canyon is a must-see for every family. To make it all the more exciting, go whitewater rafting on the Colorado River.

Children from the age of four have the opportunity to become Junior Rangers and learn all about this magnificent area.
