2022 is just a few days away, and many passionate travelers are already dreaming about their next big adventure. If you’re looking for some inspiration for your next trip, check out Metro’s list of top travel trends that will be ruling the world next year.

Silent Safaris

Silent safaris ditch battery-powered 4x4s for quieter vehicles and they aim to be more eco-friendly than all the alternatives. They still allow you to see animals in close proximity, but they’ll be much calmer and more relaxed without intrusive noises.

Train Travel

Train travel has often been hailed as one of the most eco-friendly ways of travel, and it will be going stronger than ever in 2022. As more people try to reduce their carbon footprint, they’ll be ditching planes for trains, especially now that so many are operating through scenic routes.

Carbon Labeling

Carbon labeling is another eco-friendly travel trend that’s all about revealing the exact environmental footprint of each holiday, and some companies are already starting to embrace it.

Workations

As more people turned to work from home in the face of the global pandemic, workations became the new normal for many working professionals. They were the biggest travel trend of 2021, and their popularity isn’t fading away next year.

Instead of relying on a rental car, Uber, or taxis during your visit to a city, a great way to save money is by utilizing public transportation like subways, buses, and commuter trains. While using public transportation will always save you money, there are even more strategies that you can employ while using public transportation to cut down the costs of getting around even more. Keep these three things in mind if you want to do your wallet a favor!

Know Your Options

In most cities, you will have multiple options for getting around on public transportation. What many people fail to realize, however, is that certain options may be more expensive than others. Be sure to check prices for each available public transportation option and don’t be afraid to choose the cheapest one.

Buy a Multi-Day Pass

If you are planning to use a city’s public transportation system with regularity during your visit, you will almost always find that it is cheaper to buy a multi-day or multi-trip pass that gives you discounted fares on individual rides. Do some research on the public transportation system’s website before you leave in order to know what your best option is.

Travel Off-Peak

Many cities with public transportation systems have implemented a scheme in which it is cheaper to travel during off-peak hours than it is during the times when people are generally commuting. Leave early and go back to your hotel late if you want to save on fares.

If you find yourself traveling in a big city, a metro system will likely be your biggest ally in getting around relatively easily and inexpensively.

Do you love metro systems as we do? Well, you have to travel around the world to check out these systems, the biggest and most extensive ones on the planet.

Shanghai Metro (China)

The Shanghai Metro is the most extensive on Earth, covering 420 miles and with 345 total stations. It’s no surprise that the world’s second-most populous city would have such a huge system.

Beijing Subway (China)

The Beijing Subway is nearly as extensive as the Shanghai system, and it even has more riders on an annual basis, with 3.8 billion annual riders. It’s a gargantuan system and is essential for navigating the Chinese capital.

Guangzhou Metro (China)

This relatively new system, which opened in 1997, covers nearly 300 total miles. This metro system is modern, and slick, helping yet another massive Chinese city’s residents get around with relative ease.

London Underground (United Kingdom)

The Tube is the fourth-largest metro system in the world. With classic phrases such as “Mind the Gap!” already embedded in world pop culture, The Underground has 270 stations that cover 250 total miles of tracks.

Dubai Metro

This ultra-modern metro was opened in 2009 and is considered one of the best and most modern systems in the world. It’s a cool respite from the hot environment of Dubai’s streets, helping locals and tourists alike traverse the city.

London Underground
